“Magic does not recharge here. A disease hunts anyone who can cast it. And yet people come — because no one can follow them.”

Overview

On Disilix, spell slots expended do not recover through rest. Prepared magic stays prepared until spent, then it's gone until the caster leaves the planet entirely and spends sufficient time off-world.

This would be merely inconvenient if not for The Hollow — a disease that infects only those capable of casting spells. It consumes magical capacity from the inside, burning out spell slots one by one, permanently. It doesn't kill quickly. It reduces. There is no cure, only a treatment protocol that slows progression if maintained rigorously.

People come to Disilix to disappear. The Hollow deters magical pursuit. It is the system's best hiding place, and is populated accordingly.

Peoples & Ancestries

Dominant Ancestries
  • Fetchling (partial Hollow resistance due to shadow-adjacent nature)
  • Ratfolk (practical survivalists, lower magical investment)
  • Halfling (incidental relationship with magic reduces vulnerability)
  • Fleshwarp (altered magic relationship partially insulates some)
  • Rotating population of whoever is currently hiding from something
People Classification

Mostly Grounders of the desperate variety. Some Void Walkers use Disilix as transit refuge, since Void Walking is not arcane spellcasting and is not suppressed by the planetary field.

Factions

The Hollow Watch

Loose network of long-term Disilix residents monitoring Hollow progression. Not a government — the closest thing to one. Membership voluntary. Everyone understands accurate Hollow data is in everyone's interest.

The Safe Harbor Compact

Agreements between refugee communities guaranteeing non-disclosure and mutual non-aggression. In place for over 200 years. Violated three times. Each violation resulted in the offending party finding Disilix suddenly very inhospitable.

Tracker's Bane

Faction of people who came to Disilix because someone powerful is looking for them, who now help others do the same. Will sell information to anyone except parties hunting their clients.

The Alchemists Circle

Community of non-magical and low-magic practitioners who built a sophisticated alchemical tradition. When spells are unavailable, alchemy fills the gap, and Disilix has had centuries to develop that gap into a discipline.

The Infected Registry

Private record of who has the Hollow, progression level, and prior capabilities. The most sensitive record on Disilix. Multiple parties want it — Gadar, the Necromancer Conclave, at least two intelligence services. No one has successfully stolen it.
